Neuroepidemiology: From Principles to Practice

Neuroepidemiology: From Principles to Practice
Neuroepidemiology is the epidemiologic study of neurological conditions. This fine text provides a comprehensive and accessible overview of research methods for conducting epidemiologic and clinical research on these conditions. It is aimed at neurologists, epidemiologists and public health professionals, as well as students of these disciplines. The book has three parts, each emphasizing the unique aspects of studying neurologic disorders. The first focuses on classic principles of epidemiologic and clinical research, including study design, sources of study bias, and methods for assessing the role of environmental and genetic factors in neurologic disorders. The second part covers each of the major neurologic disorders, with an emphasis of the methodologic aspects of studying these disorders and discussion of future research directions. The third party is devoted to clinical and translational research methods, including the design and conduct of clinical trials and prognostic studies, and well as the principles of health services research and evidence-based medicine. This textbook will give neurologists, epidemiologists, and their students the foundation for conducting rigorous epidemiologic and clinical research on neurologic disorders.

The Washington Manual& #174; General Internal Medicine Consult
The Washington Manual& #174; General Internal Medicine Consult
Prepared by residents, fellows, and attending physicians, this handbook is a practical guide to the general internal medicine consult. It is ideally suited for residents called on to do an inpatient consult, for students working on an inpatient medicine service, and for specialists seeking information on general internal medicine management. The content is based on the top 25 most common general internal medicine consults requested of the hospitalist service at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University. Coverage includes clinical presentations, perioperative management as it relates to a clinical consult, guidelines on the appropriate conduct and approach of a medical consultant, and reviews of selected clinical trials.

Clinical trial management - Over the last ten years, getting patients and doctors into clinical trials has become the most delay-ridden aspect of the drug discovery and development process. When implemented effectively, clinical trial recruitment (CTR) initiatives can be highly successful.

Clinical trial - In medicine, a clinical trial (synonyms: clinical studies, research protocols, medical research) is a research study.

Clinical endpoint - In a research trial, a clinical endpoint refers to a disease, symptom, or sign that constitutes one of the target outcomes of the trial. The results of a clinical trial generally indicate the number of people enrolled who reached the pre-determined clinical endpoint during the study interval, compared with the overall number of people who were enrolled.

Clinical protocol - A Clinical Trial Protocol is a document that describes the objective(s), design, methodology, statistical considerations, and organization of a clinical trial. The protocol usually also gives the background and rationale for the trial, but these could be provided in other protocol referenced documents (such as an Investigator's Brochure).
